Helping Leaders Know Themselves To Grow Themselves

An Archeologist, A Seer, and a Child Walk Into a Library

, ,

An archeologist, a seer, and a child walk into a library. No, this isn’t a joke. Stay with me.

An archeologist, a seer, and a child walk into a library. The archeologist begins earnestly reviewing history books and asking questions about “what was.” He digs at the past and revisits eras gone by. He doesn’t have much interest in the matters of today.

The seer begins earnestly reviewing futurism and forecasting books and asking questions about “what if.” He digs into fiction and looks for worlds that lie ahead. He doesn’t have much interest in the matters of today.

The child begins to earnestly look at his favorite animated book about a talking locomotive and his friends and starts asking questions about “what is.” He then goes to the nearby train table and acts out the story he’s just seen. He’s fully engrossed in this moment in time.

An archeologist, a seer, and a child walk into a library. Are you the one so focused on the past that you miss today? Are you the one so focused on the future that you miss today? Or are you the child, fully engrossed in the moment at hand?

An archeologist, a seer, walk into a library. Which one are you?
